Thank you to the many volunteers who joined us for the Terry Fox Walk/Run! We had beautiful weather and the students had lots of fun running along the river! Now that we are into our routines, we are ready to start having volunteers join us. Our volunteer schedule will begin next week. If you returned a volunteer slip stating you wanted to volunteer on a regular basis, please click on the calendar tab off this website to see when you're scheduled to come into our classroom. If these times/days do not work for you, please let us know and we can adjust the schedule. If something occurs and you need to cancel on the day you are meant to come into our class, please send a note in your child's "sac de communication" or call the main office. We look forward to having your help! We will let you know when special events are taking place (e.g., field trips, Scientists in the presentations, etc.). for those of you who want to volunteer on occasion.
Timetable:
You can now view our weekly schedule under the "Timetable" tab (below the "Calendar" tab). A reminder that our library day is Day 4 (which will be on Tuesdays beginning next week).
Au revoir Madame Pangos:
Mme Pangos, the planning teacher who was working with our class 3 mornings a week, was able to get a permanent position in another school in our board (her role at John McCrae was a long term occasional position). We wish Mme Pangos all the best at her new school. In the interim, our class will have an occasional teacher (supply teacher) and we will let you know once someone else has been hired.
Food Drive:
John McCrae staff and students will be collecting food donations in support of Chalmers Community Service Center. With your support, we can help make a difference for families in need. The Fall Food Drive will run from Monday, October 1st to Friday, October 12th. Students are encouraged to bring any donations to their classrooms for collection. Bins will also be located in the front hall.
Some need of the most needed this year items include:
- Natural peanut butter or soy butter
- Canned tomatoes (no salt added)
- Low sodium pasta sauce
- Canned beans (e.g., kidney beans, black beans, chickpeas, etc.)
- Can of low sodium soup
- Rice
- Pasta (elbow and spaghetti preferred)
- Quinoa
- High fiber breakfast cereals
- Rolled oats & instant oatmeal
- Canned salmon or tuna

Clothing:
Please ensure your child is dressed to be outside in all weather. This includes splash pants and rain boots for rainy days, as well as warm layers. Please let us know if there are items you do not have and we may have something your child can borrow.
Symmetry:
In connection to learning about butterflies, we have also been talking about symmetry. Many students have created beautiful symmetrical butterfly paintings. There have also been some other amazing symmetrical creations. Perhaps you can look for symmetry with your child.
