Yesterday, the students rotated through 5 hands-on centres learning about:
- animal homes under water (looking at starfish and even a squid!)
- animals in cold climates (which animals live in the arctic and antarctica, testing how ice doesn't feel as cold when you're protected by blubber, walking like a penguin with an egg on your feet)
- animals in a tree (looking at different types of nests, making nests)
- animals underground (learning about worms).
- animal characteristics (looking at quills, antlers, fur, aniimal prints, etc.)
A highlight was getting to meet Karl the hermit crab! Ask your child what they learned about hermit crabs.
Thanks so much to the volunteers who helped make this program possible!
Please send a filling easy-to-eat snack in a separate container (not in your child's lunch box) and we will just bring our water bottles and snacks with us (not our full lunch bags). We will eat more food when we return to school. An example of a good snack would be a sandwich and an apple (nothing involving a spoon!).
The Fire Station is collecting toys for families in need. We thought it would be nice to buy a toy and take it with us to the station. If the children have their own piggy banks, we'd love to encourage them to give a small donation of their own money (even a quarter, loonie or toonie). We'll see how much we can collect by Friday and brainstorm what type of gift we'd like to get on behalf of our class.
