Curriculum: Here are some of the topics we've been exploring in class.
Language - rhyming, retelling stories
Math - making groupings to 5 (5+0, 4+1, 3+2), see game description below
measurement: length and weight - léger (light) vs. lourd (heavy)
Arts - working with primary and secondary colours, painting portraits and observing skin tone
Sciences - mixing colours, looking for signs of spring (we'll continue with this now that the snow has melted!)
Minds Up Curriculum - mindful looking by paying close attention to things such as our skin tones
Math Groupings Game: Take 5 small objects (coins, buttons, etc.). 1 person closes their eyes and the other person hides some of the objects under their hand or a cup and then says "Ouvre tes yeux (Open your eyes)". After opening their eyes, that person guesses how many objects are hidden (2 are showing, so 3 are hidden). Most students are now very good at doing this to 5! We will now be working with numbers to 10 (1+9, 2+8, 3+7, etc) and you can try it at home. I would suggest starting with easier combinations to build confidence (10 + 0, 5+5, and maybe 9+1). Have fun!
Goodbye to Madelle George: This Friday is the last day that our ECE student, Sarah George, will be working in our class. We will miss her greatly as she has contributed significantly to our classroom. We wish her all the best as she continues with her program. To celebrate her last day, Friday, April 15th will be ANIMAL day. Students may dress in animal costumes, wear clothing that features animals or make and wear an animal mask! Be creative!
Puzzles: The students have been enjoying doing puzzles in class and we thought it would be fun to have some different puzzles. If you have a puzzle you'd like to either loan or give to the class, please send it in. Please be sure to indicate if it's a donation or a puzzle you'd like back! If you'd like it back, please write your name on the box.
Jump Rope for Heart:
Yesterday we had a kick-off assembly for Jump Rope for Heart. Each year our school supports the Heart & Stroke Foundation with this fun fundraiser. If you would like to help support this cause, please help collect donation and return the pledge envelope on our Jump Rope for Heart Day on May 11th. Donations can be collected online and/or by cash or cheque. Please be sure to write your child's name and Mme Johnson on the envelope. Merci!
