Over the past couple of weeks, we've had some students showing a curiosity about each other's bodies (e.g., touching each other on the bum, asking others to pull down their pants, etc.). We have spoken to individual students and will have a talk with the whole class about the importance of privacy and respect with regards to our bodies. Curiosity is very normal at this age, but please discuss "appropriate school behaviours" at home. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us.
TOP SECRET (please don't mention this to your child). This year, we have had an ongoing inquiry involving birds. We are hoping to get an incubator and have chicks hatch in our room. Before doing this project, we need to know if any students have a related allergy or any other concerns regarding this project.
Thursday, April 26th is the volunteer Breakfast. This is our chance to say thank you to all our amazing volunteers. If you have volunteered in any capacity (field trip, scientist in the school, classroom help, etc.), you are welcome to join us at 7:45 a.m. on Thursday, April 26th. Child care is available in our classroom.
Yesterday, the groups developed amazing cities outside in the sand box. Here's a description of their creations:
One city was powered by flowing water, we built a mill to collect the power. The other city was solar powered and we used sticks as "solar panels". We had a hospital, fire station and police station. We built several neighbourhoods using wooden blocks as houses. Both cities has large farms to grow food. One city decided it would be vegetarian and the animals would run the farm. The other city planted wheat, corn, beans, fruit, and veggies. We made a round-about to make sure that they did not have to make traffic lights. We got a big bucket of water and filled the river to make the water flow. We collected sticks to make bridges. We talked about what we need to make a city run, "reusable" energy, and food sources.
