We would like to give the children an opportunity to tell us about their families. This is a great way to learn more about one another and develop French vocabulary. The students enjoy sharing family photos. Please send in a photo (or a couple of photos) of your family that we can laminate and leave on display throughout the whole school year. If you prefer, you can send us an electronic image which we can print for you (e-mail photos to [email protected]).
With the exception of a special comfort toy (stuffed animal), we would ask that for now "home toys" stay at home. This avoids toys getting lost or causing problems within the classroom. Don't be alarmed if items from school (small toys, markers, play dough, etc.) make their way into your child's backpack. It is very common at this age to want to bring "treasures" from the classroom home. If you find these things, please just gently remind your child that classroom items need to be left at school for everyone to use, and return them to us. Thank you for your help with this.
On Friday, we enjoyed celebrating Colour Day with the making of colourful bracelets, necklaces and hats! At our Colour House assembly the "Choixpeau" (sorting hat) assigned us to GREEN house. For the remainder of the year, we will be part of the "Tribu Vert" (green team) with our Grade 6 learning buddies (Mme Beaton's class) as well as 3 other classes.
The highlight of the week was watching the transformation of our chrysalis. We had all predicted what type of butterfly was within it. On Tuesday, it had become so transparent that we could see the butterfly's orange and black wings! It was then that the class become convinced it was a Monarch. We've had some very interesting discussions about what butterflies eat, their migration, what flies faster a plane or butterfly, our butterfly's gender, and much more. We let our butterfly go on Friday morning. "Au revoir papillon".
