Volunteers: A reminder that the volunteer schedule is posted under the "Calendar" tab (above). Thank you to the volunteers who have already helped out, and to those of you who have notified us when you're unable to come. It is helpful to know if you're unavailable during your scheduled volunteer time. Merci. Last Friday: Our class did a fabulous job singing their ABC respect song at the assembly. We were really proud of them! Following the assembly, we did an outdoor "art-attack" project with our Grade 5 Learning Buddies. Our art was inspired by Diwali rangoli designs since Diwali was last week. The pictures show our creation, along with some examples of rangoli designs. ECE Appreciation Day: Tomorrow, Wednesday, October 25th, is ECE appreciation day. While teachers and ECEs have many overlapping skills, ECEs bring particular expertise in early childhood development. I feel extremely grateful to work with Madame Noftall. This is our 3rd year working together and I am continuously learning new things from her! She does an amazing job of getting to know the students. and their strengths and interests. I admire her ability to tap into the children's natural curiosity and finding out what they want to do and learn. Just yesterday, a student wanted to know about the International Space Centre. This led to other students wanting to know about space and the space station. Madame Noftall took these interests and ran with them. Using the students' ideas, children worked together to create a rocket ship out of blocks and another with connecting straws. They also brainstormed what they knew and would like to know about space and space ships, and began reading some books about space. We will see where this inquiry will go and if it will grow, but there was a lot of interest yesterday thanks to Mme Noftall's great listening and encouragement! |
