- Yesterday we had a visit from a Fire Prevention Officer who talked about fire safety. The students were given 2 homework tasks:
1) Find out where the smoke detectors are located in their home
2) Plan a meeting place where your family would meet if there were ever a fire in your home
- Meet Dash and Dot! For a few weeks, we have 2 robots named Dot and Dash in our classroom. With the help of Madame Wildfang (who is an amazing addition to our team!), the students have been learning how to make Dash move and make different sounds.
- Yesterday we found a dead goose. It's amazing to be able to look at a wild animal in such close proximity (above). We will spend some more time tomorrow seeing what we notice about the goose's features.
- Thanks to the generous donation from Lucas' family, our class now has a set of Playbees (like magnetiles). These magnetic building materials have been extremely popular and the students have been building some great structures!
- Our maker space is big hit and students have been building boats, houses, boxes and many other things. Thanks to all of you who have been sending in interesting materials. We've also been building some pretty neat ramps and chutes for our sand table (below). This will likely become an ongoing investigation/project!
- We melted snow and saw just how much dirt, sticks, leaves, etc. was hiding in those white fluffy balls of snow (below). The ideas was that it would deter the students from eating snow. It worked for a few, but not for most!

Black bean brownies
Last week we made black bean brownies for Mme Noftall's birthday. Half the class made them, so the other half (including Mme Noftall) needed to guess the mystery ingredient. We talked about how they contained protein but were still a treat, because of the sugar and chocolate chips. They were a big hit with the class! There are other similar recipes online that use maple syrup or honey as the sweetener. Mix all the ingredients in a food processor or blender. Then put them in a greased 9x9 pan and bake for approximately 25-30 minutes at 350 degrees. Let them cool before cutting.
1 can black beans
3 eggs
3 tablespoons oil
4 tablespoons cocoa
1 pinch salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
3/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup chocolate chips
