Just a reminder that this Friday is a PD DAY (no school for the students).
Scholastic book orders will be due on Tuesday, June 12th.
A further reminder to please return any library or school books. As well, if you have any money owing for the zoo trip please make these payments as soon as possible. Thanks!
We have had so many exciting events lately. I'm sure you've all heard about our chicks. 15 eggs hatched, so it's been an exciting time in our class! Please take a look at our bulletin board (outside our classroom) that shows some of the students' learning about the chicks! I will be at the class from 6-6:20 p.m. if you want to come in and meet the chicks.
We asked the students what they've learned about our recent special events, including the eggs hatching, the trip to the zoo and a Suzuki string presentation that we had today.
What the students said about our chicks:
"They hatched after a lot of days." B.C.
"They can fly now". B. G.-S.
"They can fly a little bit now". E.V-B.
"The egg doesn't just hatch by itself. The chick has an egg tooth on its beak to get out of the egg". J.A.
"It takes 21 days for them to hatch. They are all wet when they come out of their eggs. Then they dry up eventually. They need a heat lamp to keep them nice and warm." T.R.
"They're bigger now and we can see their wings growing out." E. S.
"They now are starting to get adult wings". M.B.
"Some are black and brown, and some other are yellow." V.E.
"I learned that chicks can be red". S.G.-N.
Thank you so much to the MANY volunteers who joined us. It was wonderful to be able to have such small groups and let the students explore the zoo with all of you.
"I learned that peacocks can fly". T.R.
"Monkeys are really good at climbing. I never saw a monkey that good at climbing!" C.M.
"The tiger can swim in water. It was bouncing a ball in the water". Z.P.
"I learned that kangaroos can jump really fast and really high". D.L.
"The monkeys eat bananas". E.T.
"The monkeys were funny because they were climbing funny and weird". G.D.
Today, John McCrae students who participate in the Suzuki String program played their instruments for us. We saw violins, violas and cellos, and our students had the opportunity to play all the instruments. Here are their comments:
"I learned that they're fragile and once you do it, it gets easier and easier". C.M.
"When you put the bow up high, it makes high notes, and when you put it low, it makes low notes". D.U.
"I learned that they have different sizes of bridges". M.M.
"All the instruments look the same but the cello is bigger. They all had the same thing that makes the music and the sound (the bow). It's from the horse and that's why they make sound". M.P.
"It feels good playing the cello". S.L.
