Students learned about tesserae (the materials used to create mosaics) and the many different forms it can take. Some of the tesserae the students observed in the designs Karen shared with us included: small stones, sticks, vitreous glass, stained glass, crystal rhinestones, glass beads and even a broken plate!
Students especially enjoyed being able to touch Karen's designs to feel the various textures created by the diverse materials used.
Afterwards, students created their own owl mosaics.
