If your child is attending the African Lion Safari Trip on Thursday, May 30th, please return the permission form as soon as possible. We need to work out our volunteer numbers, especially to know how many people will be riding the safari bus. We're considering asking all volunteers to pay something to help offset the expense of surplus parents. Once we have a better sense of numbers, we can let you know the potential cost. If the cost is a concern for your family, please just let us know. As well, due to the number of students participating (all 4 kindergarten classes), no siblings will be allowed to attend. If you are wanting to volunteer and prefer to drive and meet us there, instead of taking the bus, please let us know (we will likely not have room on the bus for all our volunteers). Thank you for your understanding.
Yesterday we had our Scientist in the School workshop and the students experimented with different types of simple machines including levers, wedges, inclined planes, pulleys and gears. They brought home some of their materials from the day, to share with you.
The whole school is collecting plastic grocery bags. That being said, we always welcome bags in our classroom to use when students have accidents and need to change their clothes.
Here's the info about the bag collection.
- The plastic bags collected will be processed into plastic pellets that can used in the production of a variety of plastic products (e.g. benches, planters)
- Prizes of $500 to $1000 awarded to schools that best engage their community and collect the most bags
- We are only collecting grocery bags (not milk bags, ziplocks, etc.)
- We are collecting until Friday, April 26th.
